Total Transformation Home Decluttering Challenge – In Just 30 Minutes a Day

Has clutter taken over your house, transforming it from a calming oasis to stress-inducing shanty?

Not only does clutter affect your productivity, it’s also scientifically proven to increase stress and anxiety.

So, to help you conquer your clutter and reclaim your space, I’ve created a Total Transformation Home Decluttering Challenge. This 4-week challenge will walk you through decluttering your entire home in just 30 minutes a day.

You heard that right! You don’t need to take a week off work and work around the clock to take on a decluttering challenge!

Each week we will address a certain area of your home, and you will be given a certain area of that room to declutter each day. Then, set a timer for 30 minutes each day and declutter according to the daily prompt.

And I’m only giving you 5 days worth of prompts, so you don’t even have to work on the weekends if you don’t want to! Pick whichever 5 days are the best for you! If you want to go longer than 30 minutes, go for it! But 30 minutes alone will give your home an amazing boost and you’ll start to see results right away!

As an added bonus, I’ll hold you accountable during the entire challenge! Just sign up here and I’ll email you at the start of every week with what you need to do. Then, just hit reply and email me any questions you have along the way!

Pro-Tip – When deciding what to keep and what to get rid of, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Is this something I use?
  • When’s the last time I used it?
  • Could someone else use it?
  • What could I use this space for if I got rid of it?

Are you ready for the challenge? Then let’s get started!

Week 1 – Kitchen

For the first week of the Total Transformation Home Decluttering Challenge, we’re going to tackle the kitchen!

The kitchen is usually one of the most cluttered rooms in the house, so starting here will jump start your month!

Day 1 – Pantry

Go through your pantry, tossing out all expired goods.

Day 2 – Spice Cabinet & Baking Goods

Go through your spices and baking goods, tossing out all everything that’s expired.

Day 3 – Fridge & Freezer

Go through your fridge and freezer, tossing out everything that’s expired.

Day 4 – Pots & Pans, Mismatched Dishes, Tupperware, & Cutlery

Go through your pots and pans, your dishes, your Tupperware, and cutlery, and get rid of anything that’s mismatched, past its prime, or stuff that you never use. Find a local place to donate anything that can still be used!

Day 5 – Drawers

Go through all your kitchen drawers and get rid of stuff that you don’t use or need. Pay close attention to your junk drawer – if anything in this drawer belongs in a different room (office, laundry, cleaning, bathroom), then put it where it belongs, remembering to store like with like.

Week 2 – Bedroom & Bathroom

For the second week of the Total Transformation Home Decluttering Challenge, we are going to declutter the bedroom(s) and bathroom(s)!

Day 1 – Closet

Go through your closet and get rid of everything that doesn’t fit you, that you don’t like, or that you never wear. Find a local place to donate gently worn clothes!

Day 2 – Drawers

Go through your bedroom drawers, getting rid of mismatched socks, anything old and worn, and everything you never wear. Donate everything that you can, toss, recycle, or upcycle the rest.

Day 3 – Shoes

Go through all of your shoes and get rid of pairs that you never wear. This is one place where it’s okay to have one “just in case” pair, but you definitely don’t need more than that! Again, donate everything that you can.

Day 4 – Expired Makeup, Toiletries, & Medicines

Go through all of your makeup, skincare products, beats supplies, toiletries, and medicines, tossing everything that’s expired.

Day 5 – Linen Closet – Tattered Towels, Mismatched Sheets & Pillowcases

Go through your linen closet and get rid of old and tattered towels, washcloths, and hand towels as well as any mismatched sheet sets. 3 sets of sheets per bed are more than enough. Donate, toss, recycle, or upcycle anything that you don’t want to keep.

Pro-tip: White towel and sheet sets are the easiest to maintain because it’s always easy to replace any pieces in the set!

Week 3 – Home Office

For the third week of the Total Transformation Home Decluttering Challenge, we’re going to declutter your home office!

Day 1 – Desktop Clutter

Go through everything you have on top of your desk and remove anything that you don’t use regularly. Then, take stock of what you have left and decide if any of it needs to remain on the desktop, or if you could reserve the top drawer for the items that you use the most.

Set all paper aside until tomorrow.

Day 2 – Sort Your Paper Clutter

Since paper clutter can be time-consuming, we’re splitting it into two days.

Today, sort through everything. Decide what to keep, what to shred, and what to recycle. Then, sort your keep pile, keeping like with like. Here is an entire article I wrote on a few different ways to sort paper.

You should create a system on what you’re going to do with every piece of paper that comes into your home. Here is an infographic on how paper should flow:

Paper Flow | SpikedParenting | Busy Mom Hacks to Conquer Your Paper Clutter

Day 3 – File & Shred Your Paper Clutter

File all the paper you need to keep and shred and recycle the rest.

Day 4 – Drawers & Old Electronics

Go through your drawers and toss everything you don’t need. This includes old electronics! Donate what can be of use to someone else.

Day 5 – Bookshelves

Go through your bookshelf and get rid of any books that you don’t want. Donate what you can. Or reach out to other people in your neighborhood – Facebook Marketplace is great for this – including pictures of the books (so you don’t have to list out all the titles).

Week 4 – Living Room, Storage Closets, & Laundry Room

For the fourth week of the Total Transformation Home Decluttering Challenge, we’re going to declutter your living room, storage closets, and laundry room!

Day 1 – End Tables, Coffee Table, & Shelf Clutter

Go through everything that’s found a home on your end tables, coffee table, and any other shelves. Decide what you want to keep and where you’re going to keep it. Toss, donate, or recycle the rest.

Day 2 – Entertainment Center, DVDs, & Video Games

Go through your entertainment center and decide what you can get rid of. Old DVDs and video game equipment are common in areas like this. Toss, donate, or recycle what you don’t want to keep.

Day 3 – Toys

Go through all of your kid’s toys (preferably when they’re not around), and toss, donate, or recycle anything that they no longer play with.

Day 4 – Coat Closet

Go through your coat closet and toss, donate, or recycle any old coats that you no longer wear or don’t fit, any old hats or scarves, and any mismatched gloves.

Day 5 – Cleaning Supplies

Go through your cleaning supplies. Combine any like bottles into one. Consider what supplies you actually need to keep and toss or donate what you don’t.

Now, I know this list sounds massive! But it’s just 30 minutes a day!

And you may not get every single task done in 30 minutes. But it will make a huge difference! And seeing the change in your space – and your stress levels – may just give you the motivation you need to take it one step further!

If haven’t signed up for the challenge yet, make sure you do that! I’ll email you the tasks for every week and be standing by in case you have any questions along the way!

Good luck decluttering!
