Meet the #motherhustlers: Meredith Sudborough
Meredith Sudborough is a Clean Foods Advocate and the owner of Green Groceries To Go.
Tell us about yourself, your business, and how you got started!
I’ve been married for almost 20 years and am a mom to 2 teens and a brown rescue dog.
Truth be told, I am not (and never have been) a natural born shopper but internet shopping has made it a bit more tolerable for me. A few years ago, I grew weary of having to be ever vigilant about reading labels, deciphering ingredients, and following companies to make sure they are aligned with my values – all that adds time to even the smallest of shopping adventures.
Even some online stores will show you products that don’t match your search criteria…..I thought about how much easier food shopping had been for my mom & grandmothers who didn’t have to worry if they were buying an organic apple or one sprayed with chemicals or if they had a big enough food budget for the “premium” products. Food was simply food, and the suppliers cared about their customers.
Green Groceries To Go sprouted from there with a completely Non-GMO inventory. We envision a future where everyone has access to clean foods no matter where they live or what their budget is. Currently, we offer shelf stable products but will be adding frozen/refrigerated products (dairy, grass-fed meats, sustainable seafood) in the future.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Both my mom and brother in law died of cancer within about 6 months of each other; the jolt of their passings left me wanting a better future for kids, mine included.
What struggles do you face when it comes to balancing your work and family and how do you deal with them?
My biggest struggle is staying organized and on task. Things need to be scheduled and on the calendar for both work & family. Things that help me stay organized: lists, Trello, & Airtable.
What do you think is the secret to raising a healthy business and a healthy family?
Hands down, it’s communication…..with customers & family members! What products do people love? What nourishes their soul?
What is one piece of advice you could give to help other mompreneurs out?
Eat at least one meal a day with your family if possible.
What words of encouragement do you have for your fellow mompreneurs?
Don’t give up! Your vision is SO possible – if you need help ask someone, reach out in person or via email, find a facebook group. There’s a whole world out there that is shifting for a better future for all of us!
Any fun facts you want to share?
I use coconut oil (organic of course !!) as my moisturizer….sometimes I get wild and add a drop or two of essential oils. I just discovered this after decades of trying different products that never worked!
