A Little Mompreneur Inspiration to Get You Through the Day

Today I’m veering away from my typical how-to articles to talk about something that’s been weighing on my mind lately – mompreneur inspiration, or lack thereof.

As a boss mom, I’m sure you’ve gotten your fair share of raised eyebrows.

“You do what for a living? Is that even a thing?”

Most people seem to think that those of us plugging away online just have a hobby. And few people take it seriously.

Even after you start making a substantial income off of it, there’s still the need to defend what we do constantly.

And I would like to think that I just have a bunch of jerks in my life, but it seems to be a common problem throughout our community.

And it sucks – and it’s pretty unfair.

But letting it get us down isn’t an option, either.

We are all working our asses off, doing most, if not every single thing inside of our businesses. And then we sign off, take care of our families, and get shit for spending too much online.

The only hope I can offer you is that you aren’t alone. We’re all in this mompreneur game together, in one way or another. And there are a few things that we need to keep in mind when the haters start getting us down.

Keep Your Head Up

I guess it’s safe to say that regardless of what you do, someone is going to think you’re doing it wrong.

Throw in the fact that most people don’t understand how we can run honest, genuine online businesses, and it can start to feel like we aren’t doing anything right.

So don’t let them interject their opinion into your livelihood.

This is your hustle – own it.

Remind yourself why you’re doing what you’re doing. As long as you’re happy doing what you love, then bask in that happiness, block out the negativity, and keep going.

Keep Doing What You Love

As I said, people don’t really understand what we do, and that’s disheartening.

Making a comfortable living as a digital entrepreneur holds a certain double standard. If you were making the same amount of money in a regular 9-5, nobody would bat an eye. But making that money online makes people question you. And this can range from them thinking you’re ripping people off, to it just being a phase, to it not being enough compared to what some people have been able to make online.

I think this is why someone like Marie Forleo is so relatable. She just gets it. And she’s been right where a lot of us have been – and maybe still are.

Floating along and just not finding any satisfaction in what we were doing before we started the boss mom hustle.

I remember listening to someone interview her once, and she talked about how she felt like she just couldn’t get it together because she would bounce from job to job. Then she realized that she wasn’t irresponsible, she was multi-passionate. And she turned those passions into a phenomenal career.

While we may not all find the success that she has, we can hopefully find the satisfaction. The knowledge that we are doing what makes our souls smile. That keeps us excited about our work and the difference we are making in the world.

Don’t let people who don’t understand what we do overshadow that happiness. Because then you’re letting them win.

Be a Success

The final word of advice that I want to give is just to rock your business. Nothing gives the middle finger more than a successful woman juggling everything she has going on without breaking a sweat.

There are plenty of people in my life who don’t think that running my own online business is a viable career option. But there are also the few who know with complete conviction that what I’m doing is amazing and support me wholeheartedly.

I hope you have someone in your life that can give you that support.

And if you don’t, there are plenty of people in our community who can.

It’s important to be reminded that what you’re doing matters. It will fuel your soul and keep you going when the going gets tough.

Because it will get tough – what we do isn’t easy.

It takes an unimaginable amount of strength and resilience. So much that people who don’t do what we do will probably never completely comprehend it. And that’s likely why they don’t understand. But as long as you love what you do, and it gives you purpose, then you owe it to yourself to stick it out.

I sincerely want you to be the best boss mom you can be. And I hope this little piece of mompreneur inspiration can help you get there.
